MAPLE BLUES AWARD WINNERS
The Blues and the South… Well let me tell you something. We’re from the south… Southern Ontario. You may chuckle about that but Southern Ontario has a long rich history when it comes to Blues, R&B and Roots. Ronnie Hawkins and Levon Helm both moved here from the southern US and found success. Since then many Artists & Bands from here have developed their skills and have prospered. Here’s a short but powerful list – The Band, King Biscuit Boy, Crowbar, Downchild, Paul James, Harrison Kennedy & Jack de Keyzer.

LOWDOWN DIRTY MOJOS play their own brand of uniquely original 60’s influenced R’n’B and Blues through the skillful songwriting of Paul Wootton and Stephen Foster.

Here’s how it happened During a break at a recording session in 2018, Paul Wootton and Steven Foster were watching music videos, when a 1966 video of Muddy Waters and band playing Got My Mojo Workin’ came on. A lightbulb went off and they realized that that was what they should be doing… So they set about recording their 1st album Screamin’ Hoodoo R’n’B and Lowdown Dirty Mojos was born. They used 16 different Hamilton musicians including players from King Biscuit Boy. Junkhouse, Simply Saucer & The Shakers to complete the album, which was released on Vinyl & CD in 2019. A full band was formed and they honed their sound in numerous clubs in Hamilton and a variety of local festivals. COVID curbed the bands abilities to play so they set about recording a 2nd album. Stone Cold Groovers was released in 2021 and was nominated for and WON a Maple Blues Award, New Artist of the Year. Still effected by COVID it was not awarded until 2022. They received major blues radio airplay for Stone Cold Groovers across the nation, conducting interviews on major radio shows like Holger Petersens CBC Saturday Night Blues, BluesSource with Ken Wallis & At The Crossroads Blues Radio with Brant Zwicker. 2023 brought the bands 3rd album release Down’n’Dirty. The album got rave reviews & a lot of airplay across Canada, also in the US and internationally too.

The Mojos have been busy playing live shows at clubs and festivals including, Hamiltons It’s Your Festival, Dundas Cactus Festival, London Ribfest, The Ancaster Fair & Grand River Arts Festival. In 2024 Lowdown Dirty Mojos expanded live shows into the Niagara, Kitchener and Brantford/Simcoe markets.

2025 will be another promising year for the band. Just starting to work on their 4th album it will be avaiable on CD and all digital platforms. Look out for it. We’ll certainly be on the road promoting it.
