The Pukka Orchestra (a Hindu term meaning “first rate”, “genuine”) was formed in Toronto during 1979 and released an independent single “Rubber Girl” in 1981.

They signed to Solid Gold Records shortly after with their self-titled debut in 1984 and featured the radio hit “Listen To The Radio” which was written by Tom Robinson and Peter Gabriel under its original title “Atmospherics”. Two other well received singles followed, “Might As Well Be On Mars” and “Cherry Beach Express” (a song about 52 police division in Toronto).

The Pukka Orchestra have a new album released in 2024 consisting of updated and enhanced songs from their limited release album “Palace Of Memory” and the EP  “Dear Harry” entitled “Chaos Is Come Again” which has garnered great reviews by all who have heard it.

Tony Duggan-Smith and Neil Chapman are currently playing the festival circuit billed as “Songs Of The Pukka Orchestra” with a Pukka band of characters.
